The active ingredient in Duphaston is dydrogesterone that is a synthetic hormone similar to the natural progesterone. Doctors prescribe Duphaston for several menstrual disorders caused by lack of progesterone that is needed for maintaining a healthy endometrium (lining of the uterus).
If women do no have any periods or irregular cycles, the drug can be taken as it helps in the normal shedding of the womb lining. Duphaston is also prescribed for minimising womb lining overgrowth, which is caused because of oestrogen in HRT following menopause. The drug is also given for women who have a history of miscarriages. Moreover, the medicine helps to maintain the necessary levels of hormone required for a healthy pregnancy.
While taking the drug, always maintain that you stick to your prescriptions. Never take large amounts or less amount of the drug as it can only do more harm. Once your doctor prescribes Duphaston, do not discontinue the drug without telling him. If the drug is stopped in the middle, you may be liable to more risks of the side effects.
Always keep a tab on the doses. If you miss a dose, have it as soon as you remember it. But do not go for the missed dose if it is time for your regular dosage. Mixing of two doses of Duphaston is not a healthy practise.
Before your doctor prescribes Duphaston, discuss with him all our allergies related to food, medicine and any substance, including the Duphaston ingredients. You should also tell your physician about all your medical conditions so that he may be able to take a wise decision. Tell him if you have migraine, asthma, depression, kidney/liver/heart disease, hypertension and epilepsy.
Pregnant women and those who hope to get pregnant should have to discuss with the doctor about the risk and benefit of taking Duphaston during pregnancy. Breast-feeding women should have to avoid the drug when feeding as the drug is traced n breast milk.
Doctors will not prescribe Duphaston if you have blood clotting diseases, gal bladder or liver diseases, unusual vaginal bleeding, anemia Jaundice, Breast cancer, genital cancer, or if you had a heart failure recently.
It is better to tell the doctor before hand about all the drugs that you are using, as some medicines are known to interact with Duphaston. Tell him if you are using any prescriptive/non-prescriptive medicines, herbal supplements, vitamins, minerals or herbal supplements.
